Keyboard shortcuts
Ovidens has keyboard shortcuts in two places: a few that work anywhere in the app, and a fuller set for the editors when you are building. Every one of them can be changed to whatever suits you.
mod means the modifier key for your computer: Command on a Mac, and Ctrl on Windows and Linux.
Anywhere
These work throughout Ovidens, whatever page you are on.
| Shortcut | What it does |
|---|---|
| mod + K | Open search, and switch between apps |
| mod + B | Toggle the sidebar between the wide dock and the narrow icon rail |
| Shift + / | Show the keyboard-shortcuts help |
Search jumps you straight to any app, indicator, or node. See Search.
The sidebar toggle has nothing to do in an app editor, because the editor replaces the sidebar with its own full-width bar.
In the app editor
The rest apply while you are editing an app.
Panels
Panel toggles are single keys - they fire only when you are not typing in a field, so they never clash with your text.
| Shortcut | What it does |
|---|---|
| P | Toggle the Data Pipeline panel |
| V | Toggle the Visualisation panel |
| K | Toggle the Knowledge Base panel |
| mod + J | Toggle Vera (AI) |
| mod + Shift + . | Maximize or restore the current panel |
Editing and navigation
| Shortcut | What it does |
|---|---|
| E | Open the editor from the app, and go Back to viewer from the editor |
| / | Search the view you are on - the pipeline canvas, or the list beside it |
Changing a shortcut
Open Settings from your account menu and choose Keyboard shortcuts. Click the keys on any row and press the combination you want.
- Esc cancels and leaves the shortcut as it was.
- Backspace removes the shortcut, so that action has no key at all.
- The Reset button beside a changed row puts it back to its original key, and Reset all to defaults puts everything back at once.
Your shortcuts are saved to your account, so they follow you to every browser, every computer, and every workspace you belong to.
A few combinations cannot be used, because your browser takes them before Ovidens ever sees them - mod + W, T, N, Q, L, R and the number keys among them. Ovidens tells you when you press one rather than letting you set a shortcut that would never work.
If the combination you press is already used by something else on the same screen, Ovidens asks whether you want to move it. If you say yes, the other action is left with no shortcut, and it says so.
Good to know
- Press Shift + / at any time to open a help window listing the shortcuts that work where you are standing. The full list is in Settings.
- Single-key shortcuts are ignored while you are typing in a text box, an editor, or a query, so they never get in the way. That holds even for the few shortcuts that otherwise work while you type: if you give one a single key, it stops working inside text fields, and Ovidens says so when you set it.
- There is no shortcut for running or for publishing, on purpose: both are deliberate steps you take from the Run and Publish buttons in the editor bar. Your edits are saved to your private draft as you go, so leaving the editor never loses work.
- mod + S does nothing in the editor. Ovidens catches the keystroke only so your browser does not open its own "save this page" window out of habit. In a data grid it saves your edited rows.
